3 chiefs in Chama praise govt. for removing subsidies

Three chiefs in Chama district of Muchinga province have supported the Patriotic Front (PF) government for removing maize and fuel subsidies.

Chiefs Ntembwe, Chifunda and Chikwa said the removal of subsidies on maize and fuel was a welcome move because only the elite people benefited from this facility.

The three traditional leaders said this when Foreign Affairs Minister Effron Lungu paid courtesy calls on them at their palaces yesterday.

The traditional leaders hoped the removal of subsidies will enable government save huge sums of money which it will channel to the construction of schools, road and clinics which will benefit the ordinary Zambians.

The chiefs have since called on all Zambians to support government in its quest to develop the country.

And the three chiefs have appealed to government to rebuild their dilapidated palaces to enable them live in more conducive environments.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lungu said the removal of maize and fuel subsidies will in the long run greatly improve the lives of the Zambian people.

Mr. Lungu, who is also PF Chama South Member of Parliament, urged the people in his constituency not to listen to the opposition political parties that tell lies about the PF government.

He reiterated government’s determination to uplift the living standards of its citizens.

Mr. Lungu was on a tour of his constituency to explain to the people the advantages of removing the fuel and maize subsidies.
