ZESCO Managing Director Cyprian Chitundu says there is massive potential to generate 300 megawatts of hydro electricity from the water resources available in the northern and Muchinga provinces.
Mr Chitundu was speaking today at Kapamba waterfalls situated 90 kilometers from Mpika town in Mfuwe constituency.
Mr. Chitundu said the demand for electricity in the country is high and that ZESCO has intensified the search for possible waterfalls that can be developed into generating hydro electric power.
He cited Kabwelume , Lumangwe ,Chilambwe Mundulwe and Kapamba falls as having potential to generate 300 mega watts.
Mr. Chitundu said lumangwe and Kabwelume falls alone have the capacity to generate 240 megawatts,chilambwe mundulwe and kapamba could produce 10 megawats each while Lunzuwa is pegged at generate 15 megawatts upon completion.
Meanwhile, Mfuwe member of parliament Mwimba Malama who accompanied ZESCO the Managing Director to Kapamba falls said Katibunga mission will have light as per presidential directive.
