Ten successfully file for Local govt. bye-elections in Vubwi
Vubwi, May 24, 2013, ZANIS — Ten aspiring candidates have successfully filed in nominations for the three by-elections for Chimphanje, Mbozi and Chisiya wards in Vubwi constituency.
The nominations which were held at Vubwi council offices yesterday. Three political parties namely the ruling Patriotic Front, the opposition Movement for multi-party Democracy ( MMD ) and the United National Independence Party (UNIP).
Mr.Thomas Mwale is contesting on the Patriotic Front (PF) ticket, Jonathan Phiri on the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) while Mary Phiri will contest on the UNIP the UNIP ticket.
The trio all successfully filed in nominations for Chimphanje ward.
The nominations for the three wards were received by the returning officer Rodger Phiri.
Contenders in Mbozi ward are Patrick Phiri, United Party for National Development (UPND), Levison Sakala, MMD and Taulino Sakala, PF all successfully filed in nominations.
Candidates that successfully filed in nominations for Chisiya ward are Mshanga Bonex, PF Esau Nthwala, MMD, Stella Phiri UNIP, and Masauso Sakala UPND.
The polls will take place on June 20 this year in all the three wards which fell vacant after the councilors Bonex Mshanga and Thomas Mwale for Chisiya and Chimphande wards respectively defected from MMD to the ruling Party PF.
Taurino Sakala, Mbozi ward councilor defected from UPND to also join PF.
