Government has conferred recognition of Chrispother Chakolwa as Senior Chief Kalimankonde of the Unga people of Lunga district.
Luapula Province Minister Benson Kapaya who presided over the installation ceremony yesterday called on the other seven contestants to the throne to open a new chapter and support the recognised chief in order to promote development in both the economic and social sectors of the chiefdom.
Brigadier General Kapaya said it was good for the chiefdom that the head of state in accordance with the Chiefs Act of the laws of Zambia, Volume 16, CAP 287, Statutory Instrument No. 23 of 2013 accented on April 24, 2013 and recognised the new chief who was installed yesterday.
He said chiefs should unite and work closely with the government in bringing services closer to the people whose aim was reducing poverty among the people through job creation.
Gen Kapaya said government wants to provide and improve conditions for good health, quality education and infrastructural development in chiefdoms across the country.
And Chief Kasomalunga called on the newly installed Senior chief to use his position to encourage the culture of hard work among his subjects and revive the vibrant agricultural activities in order to make his chiefdom food secure following the depletion of fish stocks in the rivers.
He warned the newly installed chief not to be misled by wrong advices from his wife because women in some cases have been responsible for many bad decisions that leaders have made in the past.
And Chief Bwalya Mponda urged the newly installed chief to use his authority as a shepherd and grow a big heart to accommodate all his subjects despite some at given times and reasons portraying unconventional personality dispositions.
The installation of Senior chief Chakolwa was also witnessed by Chiefs Kasoma Bangweulu, Mibenge, Bwalya Mponda, Kasomalunga, Nsamba, Mwansakombe and Chieftainess Mulongwe with representatives from Senior Chief Mwewa.
Others were Kabongo, Konga, Kambale, Mweshi, Milambo and Kabombo.
Area Member of Parliament Emerine Kabanshi who is also Local Government Minister, Agriculture Deputy Minister Rodgers Mwewa and Transport Deputy Minister Mutaba Mwali also attended the installation ceremony.
Christopher Chakolwa had succeeded the late Senior chief Thomson Mwanambale Nkonge who died in February last year.
