Livingstone Council urged to announce successful bidders
Livingstone, May 6, ZANIS ——-Local Government Administrative Officer Alex Bwalya has directed the Livingstone City Council to quickly announce the names of successful applicants for plots to preclude speculation of corruption.
During the 7th Ordinary council meeting today, Mr Bwalya pointed out that delays in announcing the successful applicants for plots was detrimental to the good image of the council.
He said people who applied for plots for development were anxious to know whether their applications were successful or turned down.
The council last year advertised for applications from residents for plots in Dambwa extension and Lusaka road for development.
“Iam surprised that up to now successful applicants have not been announced and I believe any delays could spark speculation of corruption among the people who applied for the plots,” said Mr
Bwalya.
But Acting City Planning Officer Jamie Mukwato said the council was still waiting for clearance from the Ministry of Lands before announcing successful applicants for the plots.
And Livingstone City Council Town Clerk Vivian Chikoti said owners of unfinished buildings under construction should be given timeframe in which to complete their structures before the United Nations World Tourism General Assembly (UNWTO) in August this year.
Ms Chikoti also warned with stern action owners of business buildings that have not been painted.
“Despite our efforts to compel these people to paint their buildings we have some buildings with roof tops which are still an eyesore and i think it is high time that we take some stern action against those people who have failed to comply with our directive,” said Ms Chikoti.
