Contractors engaged to construct one by three classroom blocks at Milele and Mutomena basic schools in Shangombo district have abandoned the works.
The two named contractors who were engaged by the previous government to construct two classroom blocks using Constituency Development Fund (CDF) have since left without paying their workers.
The development came to light when Sinjembela constituency Member of Parliament Poniso Njeulu visited the two schools to check on the progress of the works.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Njeulu, who is also Information and Broadcasting Deputy Minister, has since expressed sadness over the development.
He said it was criminal and unacceptable for any contractor to abandon works despite being paid all the money to carry out the works.
Mr. Njeulu said government will track the contractors and bring them to book because abandoning the projects frustrates government’s efforts to providing quality education to the Zambian people.
