Domestication of millennium challenge cheered

Lusaka, April 20, ZANIS —–The Millennium Challenge Cooperation (MCC) has commended government for domesticating the millennium challenge compact.

MMC Vice Chairperson Andrew Mayock said his organisation is happy with the strides being made by government in ensuring the success of the compact.

Mr Mayock was speaking at the MCC Offices in Washington DC at the bilateral meeting between MMC and the Zambian government.

He observed that the domestication of the millennium challenge compact is a great opportunity for government and the MMC to bring to fruition a water and sanitation project that is intended to turn Lusaka into a modern city.

And Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba who is also MMC Chairperson said government is committed to ensuring that the single largest grant to the water and sanitation sector is utilized and implemented successfully.

He observed that this commitment can be seen through the domestication of the compact, putting in place of the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company Board, and recruitment of staff.

The MMC has awarded Zambia a 354,757,640 United States Dollar grant that will see the country’s capital expand access and improve reliable water supply and sanitation  as well as to improve drainage services in selected urban and peri urban areas to reduce water borne diseases.

This is contained in a statement availed to ZANIS by First Secretary to the Press, Patricia Litiya at the Zambian Embassy in United Sates.
