The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested eight people across the country for allegedly trafficking in psychotropic substances.
Deputy DEC Public Relations Officer (PRO) Theresa Katongo said in Muchinga province, the Commission has arrested and jointly charged Maggie Mate, 49 of Makululu compound in Kabwe and Michael Bwalya, 25, of Chibombo district for trafficking in 343 kilogrammes (kgs) of cannabis.
Others arrested include Queen Nankamba, 46, of Soweto Compound in Kapiri Mposhi for trafficking in 139 kg of cannabis, Chisanga Moses Kaposo, 33, a peasant farmer of Serenje for trafficking in 34.2kg of cannabis which was concealed in two polythene bags and Harrison Chongo, 35, a peasant farmer of Kapiri Mposhi for trafficking in 6.2 kg of cannabis.

Ms. Katongo said the Commission also arrested Dickson Luo Nkosi, a 25 year-old man of Nakonde for allegedly trafficking in heroin.
She said Nkosi, who comes from Katozi village in Nakonde district, was arrested for trafficking in 15 sachets of heroin which was concealed in transparent plastics behind his sofa in the house.
Ms. Katongo further said Janet Muyumbana, 31, a business lady of 1182 new Makeni Site and Service in Lusaka, has been arrested and jointly charged with Mercy Zulu, 31, also a business lady of 61/62 John Laing compound in Lusaka for trafficking in eight sachets of cocaine.
She said the two female suspects were apprehended along Lumumba road at a named bar in Lusaka.
Ms. Katongo said all the suspects will appear in court soon.
