The disabled have praised government for a number of things that has happened in their favour since the Patriotic Front took over power.
Zambia Association of the Blind (ZAB) Secretary for Social Affairs, Clement Chanda told ZANIS in an interview in Kabwe today that his association was happy with the way government was attending to some of the pressing issues facing his members.
Mr Chanda said within the short time PF has been in government, it has managed to domesticate the United Nations (UN) convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.
He explained that government also enacted persons with disabilities Act no. 6 of the 2012 and statutory instrument no. 97 of 2012 which allows persons with disabilities to import modified vehicles on duty free.
Mr Chanda further noted that government has this year employed 12 blind persons as telephone operators in various ministries, an indication that PF government is inclusively creating jobs for all Zambians.
He however called on the government to help in resolving street begging among the disabled which he noted has been a big challenge for many years now.
