September 28, Two trucks have been burnt to ashes after they collided at Nega Nega turn off in Chikankata district of Southern province this morning.
Acting Chikankata District Commissioner Trevor Kayanda who rushed to the accident scene confirmed the development to ZANIS in a telephone interview in Lusaka today.
Mr. Kayanda said the truck which was coming from Mazabuka carrying some machinery collided and caught fire on the spot with the other truck which was coming from Lusaka carrying cotton.
He said efforts to put off the fire failed as Chikankata district has no fire tender while efforts to call for a fire tender from the nearby Mazabuka and Kafue districts all proved futile.
Mr. Kayanda said the fire tender only managed to come from Lusaka but it was too late to recover any property.
And Mr. Kayanda could however not confirm of any deaths during the accident but said according to the onlookers, the driver of the truck which was carrying some machinery managed to escape.
But efforts by ZANIS to get a comment from the Zamia Police Service Acting Spokesperson Esther Katongo on the matter failed as her mobile phone was off.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kayanda said there is need to urgently procure a fire tender for the newly created Chikankata district in view of the accident which happened this morning.
