Abuse of office trial for Siliya to continue next year

THE case where Dora Siliya is charged with abuse of authority of office which she allegedly committed as communications minister in the MMD government has been adjourned to January 26, 2016 for continued trial.
Siliya, who is now energy minister in the PF government and Petauke PF member of parliament, arrived at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court complex around 14:08 hours yesterday.
She in court in relation to allegations that she directed the cancellation of a duly awarded contract for the installation of a radar system.
When the matter came up for continued trial before Ndola High Court deputy director operations Joshua Banda sitting as magistrate, state prosecutor Martin Mayembe applied for an adjournment, saying the parties had earlier agreed not to proceed with the matter.
Mayembe said the state witness was not available, owing to the earlier understanding that the defence would not be available for the hearing.
Magistrate Banda adjourned the matter to January 28, 2016 for continued trial before an almost empty courtroom where there was only Siliya in the accused dock, her lawyer Lubinda Linyama, Mayembe and a court marshal.
