Luano suspects escapes from custody

–A suspect cattle rustler has escaped from holding cells in Luano district of Central Province.

Central Province Police Deputy Commissioner, Edwin Bwanga, confirmed the development to ZANIS, adding that police have since launched a manhunt for the escapee.

Mr Bwanga named the escapee as Simon Mulambo Mutinta, 32, of Suse village in Chief Kanyesha’s area of Luano district.

The Deputy Police Commissioner said the prisoner was among his two brothers identified as Haanombe Mutinta 37, and Saulo Mutinta 33 facing charges of stalk theft.

Mr Bwanga said the trio is suspected to have stolen a cow valued at K3500.

He said the inmate escaped in the early hours of Thursday, after breaking the wall of Mboroma Police cells using pieces of flat steel mental.

Mr Bwanga has since appealed to members of the public to report any suspect to relevant authorities.
