Nakonde Oct 27/14, ZANIS…Civil servants, stakeholders, pupils and senior citizens in Nakonde District of Muchinga Province last Friday turned out in large numbers to commemorate Zambia’s Golden Jubilee.
And Nakonde District Commissioner James Singoyi, who officiated at the ceremony, was grateful that people had turned out in large numbers to commemorate Zambia’s 50 years of independence.
The colourful event was held at Nakonde primary school grounds.
The event was characterised by various performances from schools, cultural dance group performances from freedom fighters, including performances from the neighbouring Tanzania among others.
About nine freedom fighters were awarded on Friday in appreciation for the help they rendered during the struggle.
And Nakonde freedom fighters representative, Gabriel Bwalya, thanked the office of the District Commissioner and other stakeholders who ensured that the freedom fighters were remembered in a special way on such an important day in their lives.
