HERIOT Properties Investment Limited, a South African company, will this year spend US$45.5 million on the construction of the Mukuba shopping mall in Kitwe.
Heriot Properties Investment Limited director Steven Herrings said the mall was expected to create more than 1,000 jobs at the construction stage.
This was revealed in Kitwe during a public hearing on the project.
Mr Herrings said the mall would be built at the former Kitwe Zoo on Chiwala Road and would be completed in 18 months time.
He said the Mukuba Shopping Mall was scheduled to start in September, this year.
Mr Herrings said the company would try as much as possible to give local suppliers business opportunities during the construction stage as well as, providing meaningful corporate social responsibility activities.
“The mall will host major international tenants such as Shoprite, Pick ‘n’ Pay, Mr Price, Jets, Spar Truworth and Edgars, among others.
He further added that the company would fulfill its promise of constructing a world-class shopping mall as it was aware of the stalling shopping mall construction projects in Kitwe.
Meanwhile, some residents advised the project developers to expand the lanes on the road to reduce the possible congestion likely to be caused during and after the construction of the mall.
They further appealed to the company to ensure that they mitigate dust pollution to the surrounding homes.
