FIRST Republican President, Kenneth Kaunda has asked God to protect and provide wisdom to President Edgar Lungu as he guides the nation to prosperity.
Dr Kaunda joined hundreds of Zambians led by President Edgar Lungu to celebrate the National Day of Prayers at the Show Grounds in Lusaka yesterday.
He also prayed for national economic blessings and leadership guidance.
He said Zambia needed God in order to see economic transformation and proper leadership.

“May the Lord God Almighty continue to bless and guide you in all that you think and do for these great people in this country all the way, all the way, Amen and Amen,” Dr Kaunda said.
President Lungu, Dr Kaunda and former President Rupiah Banda all released three white doves as a symbol of setting Zambia free from all curses and allowing God to start pouring new blessings into the country.
The Presidents were also presented with bibles and showers of prayers from Bible Gospel Church in Africa Bishop (BIGOCA) bishop, Peter Ndhlovu saying the word of God should continue guiding Mr Lungu as he continues to rule Zambia.
Bishop Ndhlovu said Zambians should stop judging Mr Lungu based on his past life because for him to declare October as a holiday was an indication that he had given his life to God and had changed.
The Royal Highnesses also showered blessings upon President Lungu so he could continue his Presidency and broke all the curses that might have been planted upon mother Zambia.
Chief Chipepo in his prayers asked God to break the curses on the land wrangles saying the President should open his eyes and ensure that no huge portions of land should be given to foreigners but allow Zambians to enjoy their fruits.
Chief Chipepo who broke the curse of land wrangles by pouring some soil onto the wet ground said that was an indication that Zambians were now free to acquire land and ensure that they develop it to the benefit of the nation.

Hundreds also converged at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium led by Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Howard Sikwela.
Mr Kambwili washed the feet of various members of the church as a symbol of humility and reconciliation.
He said people from different political affiliations should put their differences aside in order to work together.
The minister said the challenges that the country was currently facing needed God’s intervention.
In Kabwe, Central Province Minister, Davies Chisopa led scores of residents at the Godfrey Chitalu Stadium for the prayers.
In Mansa, the Pentecostal Assemblies of God Terbanacle and St Mary’s of Assumption Cathedral were filled to the brim while many others sat outside due to lack of space while taking part in the prayers and fasting.
Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Boniface Chimbwali who represented provincial minister Benson Kapaya at the tabernacle said Zambians should not be surprised when they are called upon to fast in both periods of great difficulty and happiness.
At the Cathedral, Bishop Patrick Chisanga called for unity and asked all those in attendance to continue with the spirit of prayer.
