ZICA concerned with continuous development of accountants

Chief Executive Officer of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) Hapenga Kabeta has said the institute was very interested in the continuous professional development of its graduates.

Mr. Kabeta said the continuous development of ZICA graduates was cardinal to the production of quality accountants who will in turn contribute to the development of the profession.

He said the institute will always comply with the requirements of the international federation of accountants which compels member bodies to subject their aspiring professionals to a compulsory minimum three year practical training before being admitted to the profession.

He said this last evening during the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between ZICA and public accounting firms.

Mr. Kabeta said practical training for aspiring professional accountants was important because it allowed the graduates to implement what they have learnt during their training thereby polishing their accounting skills.

He stressed that graduates will only acquire competencies if their companies partner with ZICA in offering the graduates a platform to train from.

And ZICA president Frederick Banda said the MoU between ZICA and public accounting firms will help strengthen accountancy in Zambia.

Mr. Banda appealed to the firms to impart skills they have acquired in the industry to the aspiring accountants graduates.

He said producing quality accountants calls for collective efforts from the institute and the accounting firms that are admitting graduates.
