Police in Luwingu are investigating a shooting incident involving two rival camps in the Lubansenshi parliamentary by-election slated for Thursday, September 24.
Acting Northern Province Police Commissioner Luckson Sakala says police has launched the investigation into the incident in which two shots were fired in the air to scare UPND supporters.
Mr. Sakala said the campaigns have been peaceful apart from the shooting scuffle.
UPND Deputy Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said the campaign could have gone down history as one of the peaceful.
Mr. Mweetwa said the PF and UPND held a meeting and resolved to maintain the peace that has prevailed since the campaign started.
MMD spokesperson Raphael Nakacinda blamed the UPND and PF for the violence.
Mr. Nakacinda, who said his party has done lots of ground work, appealed to the two parties to maintain peace.
And Rainbow Party Deputy Secretary General Cosmas Musumali said the election has been intensive and competitive.
Dr Musumali also bemoaned the skirmishes between the two rival parties.
Independent candidate Charles Chimumbwa could not be reached for any comment regarding the campaign.
