FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) has set October 10 as the date for its extra-ordinary council meeting (ECM) at Government Complex in Lusaka.
Among some of the items to be tabled will be the restructuring of the league and amendments to the constitution.
Tembwe1FAZ communications manager Nkweto Tembwe said the FAZ council would be reconvening next month to conclude some business started at the annual general meeting in March.
Tembwe said the ECM would deal with matters related to the constitution and restructuring of the league and all other issues that were left hanging in March.
“Issues of restructuring the league, and also constitution amendments will be touched on during that meeting. I can assure you that it will be a very short but effective meeting,” Tembwe said.
Tembwe also said the construction of the US$1 million FAZ School of Excellence under the FIFA Goal Project number five in Luanshya’s Baluba area was progressing well.
Fully funded by the world football governing body, FIFA, the project will see the construction of two football pitches (one artificial and the other natural), a swimming pool, state-of-the-art classrooms and modern office blocks.
Tembwe said the project was expected to be completed by second half of next year.
FIFA regional representative Ashford Mamelodi, who inspected the ongoing works being carried out by a South African firm, Olimonta Sport on Wednesday, expressed happiness at the progress made so far with the office structures already at window level and the artificial turf on course.
Mamelodi said in an interview that phase one of the project, that will greatly contribute to the development of football in Zambia, was expected to be completed mid-next year.
FAZ general secretary George Kasengele said the country’s football governing body recognised Copperbelt as a bedrock of Zambia’s football, hence the move to erect a School of Excellence in Luanshya.
Kasengele said FAZ was grateful to FIFA for the project, saying the facility would have a great impact on Zambia’s football.
“Copperbelt does not have an artificial turf and because of that, clubs that compete in CAF games are forced to travel to Lusaka to acclamatise to the turf but that will be a thing of the past once the facility is ready,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tembwe announced that the Airtel Rising Stars kicks off next week and that FAZ would hold another Press briefing next week to give more details.
And FAZ is saddened with power outages experienced at the Heroes National Stadium in Lusaka on Tuesday during Zambia’s friendly match with Gabon.
“Well, we do not want to comment more on it because we have been told that investigations are still being carried out. “Otherwise that was very bad, because we talked to them before the match and we were assured such would not occur,” he said.
FAZ president, Kalusha Bwalya thanked the Republican President Edgar Lungu for sending a powerful delegation of fans to Kenya for last Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Kalusha also commended President Lungu for the Government’s continued support to the association.
