Labour laws to be repealed urgently

Government says the process of revising the country’s labour laws has progressed.

Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda says the current labour laws need to be repealed urgently owing to a number of flaws it contains.

Mr Shamenda has regretted the delay in labour law reforms saying the existing laws do not favour employees but only side with the employers.

He said the weakness in the current pieces of legislation has largely contributed to casualisation and exploitation of workers in industry.

Meanwhile, Mr Shamenda has disclosed that Government will soon start the process of partially amending the Employment Act.

The Labour Minister said this in Ndola today when he officially launched the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management draft operational policy.

Earlier, institute president Justine Kangwa urged Government to urgently consider amending the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Act so as to enable the institute punish erring firms and human resource practitioners.
