Continued water shortage in Kasama town in Northern province is greatly affecting the local residents.
Some residents told ZANIS in Kasama today that the continued water shortage that has hit Kasama town since Monday last week has greatly affected their livelihood.
Residents said the non-availability of water in Kasama Townships is a centre of worry as the water utility company seems to have no better solution to address the problem.
The residents who have since called on government to intervene in the matter, claims that Chambeshi Water and Sewerage Company seem to have no capacity to supply water to its clients as evidenced from concurrent water blues in the area.
They have accused the Chambeshi Water Company of lame excuses when they want water.
The residents requested the water utility company to work extra hard to supply water to the community in the area to avert possible outbreak of diseases.
The residents have also threatened to demonstrate to higher authority if the water company fails to live to its expectation as the water currently being fetched from Mulilansolo stream is posing danger to their health.
The most affected areas are Location, New Town, Chibote, TAZARA, Central Town, Chikumanino and Mulenga Hill.
And when contacted for a comment, Chambeshi Water and Sewerage Company Public Relations Officer Chanda Mutale said water supply has been hampered by the low voltage which has extensively reduced the supply capacity.
Mr Mutale said power supply has been the major hiccup as machinery at the plant is affected causing short power supply at the plant.
He added that road rehabilitation works have also caused some water leakages which has made water to be wasted.
