Lusaka, August 5, ZANIS—The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged an Africare employee for corrupt practices involving over K34, 000.
ACC Acting Spokesperson Dorothy Mwanza said in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today that Africare Administrator Patrick Luma 31, of Lusaka’s Libala South, was yesterday arrested and charged with one count of corrupt practices by a private person contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Ms. Mwanza stated that Luma, on dates unknown but between March 30, 2010 and November 10, 2010 in Kabwe, being an employee of Africare solicited and received K2,000 from Nsungeni Orphanage Executive Director Mary Chiwala as an inducement or reward for him to facilitate for more funding from Africare.
She said Mr. Luma is also facing three other charges which include obtaining money by false pretences.
She said in count one, Mr. Luma, with intent to defraud or deceive Africare, obtained K20, 000 from Central Youth Development Centre Executive Director Eddie Nchimunya Himoonde by purporting that the said organisation was over paid when in fact not.
Ms. Mwanza further said in count two, Mr. Luma obtained K7,500 from Berthwell Chikota of Childcare Society purporting that the said money was to be receipted and given back to the accountant when in fact not.
She said in count three, Mr. Luma obtained K4,800 from Victory Support chairperson Neddie Banda claiming that the organisation was overpaid and that the money will be paid back to Africare when in fact not.
Mr. Luma has been released on bond and will appear in court on August 11, 2015.
