POLICE in Kabwe have arrested two workers of Kabwe General Hospital for allegedly purporting that they were robbed of K77, 000 yesterday by unknown people.
The robbery allegedly happened between 10:20 hours and 11:00 hours near Centenary building in the central business district after the two men withdrew the money from a bank.
Central Province commissioner of police Lombe Kamukoshi and Kabwe General Hospital superintendent George Chipulu both confirmed the incident yesterday in separate interviews.
Ms Kamukoshi declined to give further details of the purported robbery as she was still waiting for a full report.
Dr Chipulu said according to a report, the K77,000 was allegedly stolen from the men in unexplained circumstances.
Police arrested the two men when they went to report the matter to Kabwe Central Police Station.
Police sources said they suspected dishonesty and apprehended the two men to help with investigations.
The source could not disclose if the money had been recovered from the suspects.
“We have arrested these men who work for Kabwe General Hospital. It appears that it was a fake robbery,” the police source said.
Earlier, there was commotion where thieves allegedly snatched the money as passers-by could not understand whether it was a vehicle or money that was stolen.
