A FORTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD woman has died after being hit by a tyre which came off a moving truck on the Ndola-Kitwe Road.
The woman was walking on the roadside when the tyre came off a speeding truck and rolled straight at her.
Copperbelt Police chief Joyce Kasosa said the accident happened on Tuesday.
The woman was identified as Astrida Kasama, of B6-216, Wusakile Township in Kitwe.
Ms Kasosa said the woman sustained a fractured right hand and suspected internal injuries. She died at Kitwe Central Hospital (KCH) where she was rushed following the accident.
She said the tyre that hit the woman sprung from the trailer of the truck registration ABS 7277 T from Zimbabwe which was being driven by Wonder Nhau.
Meanwhile, Police in Kitwe have recovered a stolen vehicle, a Nissan X-Trail which was abandoned by unknown suspects at United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Buchi congregation in Kitwe.
The vehicle was stationed at the church from Saturday to Tuesday this week when it was discovered.
The vehicle has two registration numbers, on the disk, road tax bearing ADX 6149 and both number plates bearing ACR 1771.
