A 25-YEAR-OLD man who stole his father’s DStv and free-to-air decoders and a digital video disc player (DVD) has been jailed for 15 months by the Choma Magistrate’s Court.
In this case, Victor Fumbelo of Kabanana Site and Service pleaded guilty to theft.
Particulars are that on May 2 this year, in Choma, Victor stole two decoders and a DVD player, all valued at K740, belonging to his father, Mukabe Fumbelo.
The matter came up for facts on Thursday before magistrate Mbololwa Mukela.
And facts are that on the material day around 21:00 hours, the accused went to his father’s home in the company of his girlfriend.
However, Mr Fumbelo asked Victor, who is his eldest child, to take his girlfriend away from his house, but he vehemently refused.
This prompted the complainant to ask the woman to leave, and she complied.
This angered Victor, who became unruly and later locked himself in the bedroom and warned his siblings not to disturb him.
The following morning, Mr Fumbelo discovered that his DVD player, DStv and free-to-air decoders were missing.
The complainant then checked Victor’s bedroom but he did not find him.
He reported the matter to Choma Central Police where the stolen property was valued at K740.
Police instituted investigations that led to the apprehension of Victor, who after being interviewed admitted having stolen his father’s items.
The court heard that the accused led police to Zambia township where they recovered a DSTV decoder from a person he had sold it to.
In mitigation, Victor, who described himself as a disappointment to his father, asked the court for leniency.
“I acted foolishly, and being a first born, what I did has destroyed my reputation. Given a chance, I can apologise to my father,” he said.
Ms Mukela, who described the accused as an “irresponsible first born”, said she would send him to jail so that he could reform and become a better person.
