A LUSAKA man has died after being hit by a train between Ngwerere and Kabanana townships in Lusaka.
The unidentified man aged about 35 years died after the train ran over him and severed both legs.
When the police rushed to the accident scene in the morning yesterday, the victim was still alive but had lost his limbs.
Zambia Police spokesperson Charity Munganga Chanda said the youth died as he was being taken to the hospital by police officers.
“Investigations into the matter have been instituted to establish whether the deceased was beaten and thrown on the rail line or it was a mere accident,” Ms Chanda said.
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old pupil in Samfya District has hanged himself.
Felix Chishala of Kabula Village in Chief Mushili’s area, committed suicide about 500 metres away from his father’s backyard and his body was found on Saturday around 09:00 hours.
Luapula Province deputy police chief Webby Shula confirmed the incident in an interview yesterday.
“We have a report of 19-year-old boy of kabula Village in Chief Mushili of a boy who committed suicide by hanging himself 500 metres away from his father’s yard,” Mr Shula said
Mr Shula said the matter was reported to police by the boy’s father, a clinical officer at Fwaka East rural health centre.
Police have since launched investigations in the matter.-Times of Zambia
