A Kasama Youth has expressed interest in contesting the Kasama Central Parliamentary seat once the seat is declared vacant by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
Gershom Chama, 31, Founder and President of Zambia Unemployed Youth Organization told ZANIS in an interview today that he has been forced to go into politics after seeing the depreciating standards of living among young people in the area.
Mr. Chama who wants to stand as an Independent candidate said he was confident of scooping the seat when elections come.
He revealed that his symbol will be the rope, which signifies dragging people out of poverty.
He further added that once elected as MP, he will work with all youths to alleviate the high unemployment levels among young people in Kasama.
Mr. Chama said he will work with the government to woo investors to Kasama and Northern Province in general, saying that it was sad that the area had very few industries despite having vast natural resources.
Mr. Chama has become the third person to declare interest in mcontesting the Kasama Central Seat.
Others are Kelvin Sampa and the incumbent MP, Geoffrey Mwamba.
Mr. Chama however added that he would not be intimidated by the participation of the duo in the election because he equally had sponsors for his campaign and a clear vision.
