Shangombo youths want more schools

Youths in Shangombo district of the
Western Province have bemoaned the inadequate secondary school infrastructure in the area.

ZANIS reports that the Youths say the lack of adequate schools in the district has contributed to the welfare of young people in the area.

Speaking on behalf of other youths during the commemoration of Youth Day
 under the theme" the youth building a stable and sustainable future,"
 Mercy Mushwaule of Shangombo Day secondary School stressed that the
 district currently depends only two secondary schools.

Mushwaule lamented that the two newly built schools were not enough to accommodate all the primary pupils from across the district who make to secondary education.

 She noted that Shangombo also has a low percentage of household income
 that hinder the young people from progressing as their parents were unable to financially support their children in terms of paying fees and meeting other school requirements.

 Mushwaule said lack of employment opportunities and colleges in the
 area have impacted negatively on the lives of the youths despite most
 of them having good academic results.

 She has since appealed to government to open more secondary schools
 and grade twelve examination centres as well as constructing a college in  Shangombo district.

 And speaking at the same function, Shangombo District Administrative Officer
 Albertina Kabatana who graced the occasion emphasized that government
 was committed to empowering the youths and ensuring that they attained  a
 stable and sustainable future at all national levels.

 Mrs Kabatana further assured the young people in the district that
 government was aware of the challenges in the district and is
 currently working around the clock to improve on the situation.

 The Youth day celebrations were held at Shangombo day secondary school grounds.
