LCC SIGNS PBC with 8 local Contractors
Lusaka, April 9, ZANIS…….The Lusaka City Council has signed Performance Based Contracts (PBC) with 8 local contractors in a bid to make the City clean and healthy.
The eight contracts that have been signed are worth K6 million each and will run for 36 months which is equivalent to three years.
Lusaka Mayor Daniel Chisenga signed the contracts on behalf of the Local Authority while the eights Companies signed through their respective representatives.
The Mayor explained that the Companies that have been selected will be responsible for among other things, collecting garbage bins in the communities, clearing drainages, maintaining city roads and clearing grass.
Mr. Chisenga said the Council has decided to sign performance based contracts so that contracts could be renewed annually based on the performance of each companies.
He said the Council is committed to ensuring Lusaka looks presentable and regains its befitting status of the capital City of Zambia.
And the Mayor has disclosed that preparations to mark 100 years of Lusaka have progressed well as the two committees tasked with the responsibility of making sure that all logistics are in place are working tirelessly.
Mr. Chisenga said besides the 100 years of Lusaka committee which was constituted to make preparations, the council has constituted an external committee which is working with stakeholders in the preparations to celebrate the day on July 31st.
Meanwhile Contractors selected under the performance based contracts have praised Patriotic Front Government for engaging local contractor to maintain the city of Lusaka.
Bric-Tech Constructions Administrative Officer Precious Nawa who spoke on behalf of other contractors said Government should be commended for preferring local contractors for the jobs.
Ms. Nawa said the contracts awarded will create at least not less than 500 jobs for local people per contract thereby improving the livelihood of many Zambians.
This means that 4000 new jobs have been created for local people in clearing drains and grass, collecting bins and sweeping and maintaining roads in the communities.
