The Zambia Council for Social Development has said all Zambians must have equal benefits from the economic resources of the country.

Council Executive Secretary Lewis Mwape observed that there has been inequality in sharing resources between men and women.

Mr. Mwape said citizens should freely telling government about their challenges in order to benefit from public resources.

He said this during the launch of the Kulinganiza action plan for 2015 in Lusaka today.

He said the platform was aimed at linking people to their leaders who should subsequently ask government to create quality social amenities.

And speaking at the same event Oxfam Country Director Nellie Nyang’wa said Zambia has progressively registered positive economic performance which has made the country attain the lower middle income status.

Mrs. Nyang’wa noted that half of the country’s wealth was in the hands of only 10 percent of Zambia’s population while the other half was shared among the majority of citizens.

She said economic inequality make poor people remain in their positions and therefore causing them not the access quality health and education.

Mrs. Nyang’wa further said there were a lot of women in the informal sector which she said was the least supported by government.

Meanwhile, United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator Janet Rogan said the Zambia Council for Social Development would ensure that Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are achieved.

Ms. Ragon said Zambia has made significant progress on several MDGs such as primary enrolment which has increased from 80 percent in 1990 to 93.7 percent in 2010.

She said three major international conferences will be held in Addis Ababa, New York and Paris this year with the aim of fostering the sustainable development agenda.
