Govt. commends Anti-Corruption Commission

 

Luangwa/ January 8th, 2015, ZANIS —- Government has commended the Anti- Corruption Commission of Zambia (ACC) for embarking on a sensitization programme to educate the people on electoral mal-practices ahead of the January 20th, 2015 Presidential by-elections.

 

Luangwa District Commissioner, Eunie Mumba  has hailed the ACC for its efforts in curbing electoral mal-practices corruption and other vices which he said have a negative impact on the development of the country.


ZANIS reports  that Mr. Mumba said the initiative by the Commission has come at a right time when the country will be holding elections for the President.

 

The District Commissioner said this during a sensitization meeting for heads of Government Departments organized by the ACC held in the District Conference room, yesterday.


He said that a lot of corruption in the electoral process and other election malpractices are done during such periods adding that it was that the electorate is informed on the dangers of the trend  on the development of a nation.

 


Mr. Mumba said the country has lost a lot of money in by – elections which come as a result of court petitions of corruption and other electoral malpractices during an election.

And Anti-Corruption Commission Community Education Officer, Rebacca Mulengwa implored public service workers to abide to their code of ethics during time of elections and conduct their duties in a non-partisan manner.


Ms. Mulengwa warned that any public officer involved in partisan politics will be visited by the law hence the need for them to conduct their duties in a non- partisan manner.


She also said the Government through the ACC has introduced a law in the Public service of prosecuting any officer found delaying provision of service for unknown reason.

 

The ACC team comprising of Ms. Mulengwa, Namukolo Kasumpa the cooperate officer, Fegson Kombe Investigator and the Corruption Prevention Officer, Henry Mewa called on the public workers to report anyone involved in corrupt practices to the Commission.


The ACC team is in Luangwa District to hold a number of public sensitization meetings to educate the people on the dangers of corruption in the electoral process and other electoral malpractices.
