Government has released over K 6million to clear farmers that sold maize and rice to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in Kaputa district.
Kaputa District Commissioner, Chrispine Kachusha said government has released K6.1 million to pay farmers that sold maize to the FRA while another K617,000 has been released for rice farmers.
Mr. Kachusha said the money was released last week adding that all farmers that sold rice to the agency will be paid and cleared from the allocation.
He said the National Savings and Credit Bank (NATSAVE) has already started giving out the money to farmers.
He said the bank will first clear the rice farmers before it starts paying those that sold maize.
Mr. Kachusha said this in an interview with ZANIS in Kaputa today.
The District Commissioner has since thanked government for releasing the money to pay the farmers in Kaputa.
He said government has honored it promise to pay the farmers their money before the end of the year adding that this will enable them to start preparing for next year’s harvest.
Mr. Kachusha has also assured the farmers that the bank will pay them their money before the end of the week.
Meanwhile, several farmers were this morning found lined up at NATSAVE Bank in Kaputa waiting to get their payments.
Some farmers talked to expressed happiness that government had finally released money to pay them for the maize supplied to the FRA.
The farmers have also indicated that they had started depositing money to the Ministry of Agriculture to enable them access farming inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
