Transporters shun input distribution in Chavuma District

Chavuma, November 18th, 2014,ZANIS —- Most transporters in Chavuma District of Northwestern Province are reportedly shunning delivering agricultural inputs to farmers on the West Bank due to the  poor road network in the area.

To this effect the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has resolved to offer a special rate to transporters who would agree to ferry farming inputs to the West bank.

Northwestern Province Senior Marketing Development Officer Dennis Munachusa  confirmed the development in an interview today.

Mr. Munachusa said most transporters avoid areas that are hard to reach

He was however quick to say that those willing to distribute inputs to such areas will be given a special rate with the aim of ensuring that farmers receive inputs on time.

To date 7,000 x 50 Kilogram bags of D-Compound fertilizer, 6,500 x 50 Kg bags of urea and 3,000 packs of maize seed have already been delivered in the district.

The distribution of inputs in most areas of the district is at peak.

Chavuma District is also expected to receive 500 x 10 Kg packs of rice and grounds respectively.
