Patriotic Front Presidential aspirant Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has charged that the PF Central Committee is compromised and hence the need for the party to adopt its presidential candidate through a convention.
And Mr. Mwamba has accused PF Secretary General Edgar Lungu of having promised Central Committee members with jobs once he is elected president.
Speaking to journalists shortly after filing in nominations with the Acting President, Mr. Mwamba says there is need to give all individuals that have shown interest in contesting for the PF presidency an equal opportunity.
Mr. Mwamba, popularly known as GBM, says the only mode of adoption acceptable to all party members is through a general conference so that all interested individuals have an equal chance of contesting.
He says the Central Committee is only serving the interests of few individuals, but that all people’s views can be considered if the general conference is held.
And Mr. Mwamba has advised Mr. Lungu to follow suit and file in his nominations, stating that he will regret if he is left out in the race.
He says as per requirement by the regulations of the party, he will also submit a copy to Mr. Lungu later this afternoon at his office.
The Kasama Central Lawmaker has maintained that if he is not adopted, he will personally support a candidate who will be picked from the convention which is expected to be held next week.
And Mr. Lungu has told journalists that he will consult widely before submitting his nominations whose deadline is tomorrow.
Mr. Lungu says he cannot make such a landmark decision alone without consulting his supporters.
