Lukulu, Mitete fish mongers notified of fish ban
Lukulu, November 10, ZANIS — The department of fisheries in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in Lukulu district has announced the annual fishing ban for 2014/2015 season.
Lukulu District Assistant Fisheries Technician Patrick Katambo said it was the mandate of the department, in conjunction with other government institutions and the Barotse Royal Establishment, to ensure that fish traders and the community at large adhere to the fisheries act and regulation of 2011 concerning the fishing season closure.
Mr. Katambo said water bodies for fish breeding in the district was the upper Zambezi fishery and adjoining tributaries.
He pointed out that there will be no grace period to be given to fish traders during the 2014/2015 fish ban hence the early notification.
This was contained in a reminder notice copied to the District Commissioners for Lukulu and Mitete, the Barotse Royal Establishment Namayula Kuta, the District Agriculture Coordinators for Lukulu and Mitete and heads of government departments.
The annual fish ban commences from 1st December and runs through to end of February the following year.
The period between December and February has been identified as the peak of fish breeding.
