Chirundu man commits suicide by driving into river

———-A 37-year-old man of Mission Compound in Chirundu has committed suicide by driving his car into Kafue River.

A local police source, who confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview this morning, said Starford Kapusuneli, a Tour Guide at Kanyemba Lodge, died on Saturday around 18:00 hours when he drove his car into kafue river in high speed.

The police, however said the body of Kapusuneli, was later retrieved on Saturday night by a combined team of officers from Chirundu police station with the help of the community members.

And according to the eyewitnesses, who sought anonymity at pontoon in Chirundu where the incident occurred, disclosed in an interview that they saw a Toyota carina registration number ABZ 2813 in a very high speed with lights on and windows closed which was coming from Chirundu town.

They said it surprised them to see a vehicle with such speed driven straight into a river.

They added that it was too late for them to rescue Kapusuneli because the car was already drowned into the deep water by the time they thought of rescuing him.

The eye witnesses said that Kapusuneli was alone in the car and was on a suicide mission.

Meanwhile the deceased’s brother, Richard, narrated that earlier in day Kapusuneli wrote a letter to his family members instructing them on how they should share his properties.

The letter was left with his nephew, John while together with Kapusuneli at the plot where he was building his house.

Richard said Kapusuneli’s letter was delivered to him by John.

He said later in the evening on Saturday, he received a call informing him that Kapusuneli has died in the river.

The body of the deceased   is laying in the mortuary at Mtendere Mission Hospital in Chirundu.

And Gift Chanda, a resident who visited the funeral house, said the death of Kapusuneli was a loss not only to the family members but to the entire community.

Mr Chanda, however, advised members of the community to turn to God for guidance in terms of problems, saying that committing a suicide was not a solution.
