——–A Kabompo magistrate’s court has fined a 36-year-old man KR 500 for trafficking in cannabis.
Magistrate Exad Simumbwe on Friday fined Kahwata Lambi for trafficking in 7.5 kg of cannabis contrary to Section 6 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act Cap 96 of the Laws of Zambia.
Facts before the court were that Lambi was found by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) officers with 7.5 kg of cannabis hidden in his house at Litoya purporting to be for medicinal purposes.
Magistrate Simumbwe said since Lambi did not waste the court’s time by pleading guilty and he is a first offender, he was, therefore, fining him KR 500 or be sent to jail for nine months in default.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Simumbwe has jailed Charles Chinyama Ndala for five years for stealing nine heads of cattle valued at KR20,500 from White Samulola of Kamavonge area in Kabompo district.
He also fined John Kapanga, 45, and his 39-year-old wife, Aggy Kayombo, KR 135 each or in default sent to jail for nine months for naming another person a witch.
