The opposition United National Independence Party (UNIP) Central Committee has endorsed party President Tilyenji Kaunda as the party’s Presidential candidate for the 2016 General Elections.

And the former ruling party has officially expelled UNIP Women Chairperson Beatrice Kayuni from the party for breaching the party’s constitution and bringing the name of the party into disrepute.

Addressing a media briefing in Lusaka today, UNIP Central Committee Chairperson Donald Sakala says the central committee had a meeting yesterday in a bid to re-organize the party in preparation for 2016 general elections, were it was also resolved that the party accepts an invitation from government to be part of the 50 years Golden Jubilee celebrations both at national and local level.

Mr. Sakala states that the party expresses appreciation to the PF government for recognizing the role of UNIP in the liberation of the country.

And Mrs Kayuni says she will not accept her expulsion from the party stating that everyone under the current leadership is in office illegally.

Mrs. Kayuni has told Qfm news in a walk-in interview that UNIP members should prepare to go for a national congress to elect new leaders.

And UNIP Lusaka provincial trustee Stanley Chinoyi has dismissed assertions that Mrs Kayuni breached the party constitution in any way stating that such claims are baseless
