——-The Lukulu District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) says government is serious in the implementation of National Policy on Education throughout the country.
Allan Mukata was speaking during the Health Market Fair that took place at Lukulu Primary School in Lukulu district.
Mr Mukata said in implementing the National Policy on Education teachers should be healthy at all times hence the Ministry of Education Science Vocational Training and Early Education, through STEP up Zambia, came up with the idea of holding Health Market Fair.
He said the program targets teachers and their spouses, pupils and the community at large in order for them to do medical check-ups in various diseases.
He stated that it is through healthy bodies that teachers can effectively perform their duties in various schools, adding that their health matters.
Mr. Mukata added that schools should also be concerned with the health of the pupils for they transmit health messages to the community.
And speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lukulu district, Lukulu Primary School teacher, David Kashina, said the day was important saying it helped many teachers in Lukulu zone to access medical facilities.
Mr Kashina added that teachers play a very important role in the society, saying such activities should continue in all parts of the country.
Lukulu district held a Health Market Care Day last week on Friday under the theme Healthy Body for Delivery of Quality Education.
Meanwhile, teachers, pupils and community members turned up in good numbers for Free HIV/AIDS testing, malaria, eye and vision screening, diabetes and blood pressure check-ups among others.
