Agriculture and Livestock Minister Wylbur Simuusa says all the farmers who have delivered their produce to the FRA were paid within two weeks of delivering the maize as announced before the commencement of the marketing season in July.
Mr. Simuusa has told QFM News in an interview that farmers who have not yet been paid should not panic because his ministry is doing its level best to settle them as soon as possible.
He explains that after FRA had finished purchasing the targeted maize quantities, his ministry received a number of complaints that most farmers still had their stocks of maize and had nowhere to sell them; prompting government to direct the FRA started buying extra stock.
He says his ministry working with the Ministry of Finance is doing everything possible to ensure they source for more funding to pay for the extra stocks of maize that has been supplied to the FRA by farmers.
Mr. Simuusa says government should be commended for keeping its word that farmers will be paid their monies within two weeks after delivering their maize to FRA.
