Hail storm leaves Petauke school roofless

Petauke, March 20, 2013, ZANIS…Authorities at Mondola basic school in chief Mumbi’s  area in Petauke district have  called on government to come to their rescue and renovate the roofs that were  blown off by a storm recently.

Head Teacher of the school Chikonjiwe Sakala told Petauke district commissioner Elijah Mwale who visited the site that a 1 by 3 classroom block and three teacher houses had their roofs blown off.

Ms Sakala who was among the victims of the storm said that the iron sheets at her house had been blown off living her and other members of staff homeless.

Ms Sakala has meanwhile appealed to government to address the understaffing which has rocked the school  affecting delivery to the 350 pupils enrolled at the institution.

The head teacher described the DC’s quick response to her call as a sense of responsibility by the government adding that she was optimistic that the school will be rehabilitated soon.

And Petauke district commissioner Elijah Mwale described the destruction of the school by the storm as unfortunate.

Mr Mwale however assured the school management that a  way forward will be charted in liason with the district education authorities.

Mr.Mwale also disclosed that government has earmarked Mumbi road and Mvubye Bridge for rehabilitation before the fourth quarter of this year.
