Chief Pingwe calls for rural investment

Mungwi, March 14, 2013, ZANIS…Chief Pingwe of the Bemba in Mungwi has
called for more investment in rural areas as they have massive
potential to accelerate national development.

Chief Pingwe said his chiefdom is endowed with arable land for
agriculture which if exploited can boost the economy of the country.

The chief said this when a land development team led by Mungwi
district commissioner Joyce Chanda paid a courtesy call on him at his
palace yesterday.

Chief Pingwe expressed happiness however that the Ngoli sugar estate
and the northern coffee plantation had shown willingness to expand
their activities.

He said he was more than willing to support both local and foreign
investors who showed interest in working in his chiefdom.

Chief Pingwe said Nseluka area in Mungwi had massive potential for
growth if more investment was taken to the area.

And Mungwi district cmmissioner Joyce Chanda appealed to the chief to
reserve some land for infrastructural development such as construction
of the district hospital.

And acting Mungwi district council secretary Chanda Mushipi revealed
that government had given the local authority in the area funds
for land development.

Mr. Mushipi said the council had selected Nseluka as one of the
potential areas for expansion.

He said there was need to identify land through the traditional rulers
which can be earmarked for residential and industrial use.
