REELING from a six-month loan stint at demoted South African side Golden Arrows that ended last December, Nkana striker Festus Mbewe is again eyeing a place in Patrice Beaumelle’s Chipolopolo.
Asked about the goal he scored for Nkana when he returned to action last Saturday in the Wusakili boys’ win over Konkola Mine Police, following the clearance of his international transfer certificate, Mbewe said he wants to reclaim his position in the country’s football.
The lanky player spent half of the season at Golden Arrows on a six-month loan deal that expired last December.
Mbewe said in an interview on Saturday that his immediate task was to command a place in the team’s starting line-up and also help Nkana move up the rung in the MTN/FAZ Supper League.
“I feel good that I am playing, I feel great that I have now been cleared to play. As you can see that my teammates Bruce Musakanya and Evans Kangwa have gone abroad which is a great development, so I have come back to fill the gap,” he said.
Mbewe said he was happy to have scored a goal in his first match following his return.
“I am happy the welcome has been good for me. I am happy to have scored a goal for my team and we are pleased with the win, we want to pick points from every game now. I am just looking forward to the CAF games. As you know we are last on the table, we have two home games. So we must pick up points at home and move up,” said Mbewe.
