Vibrant youths critical to 2030 vision
Solwezi, July 3, 2014, ZANIS……Northwestern province minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu says a vibrant, disciplined and healthy youth population is critical to the attainment of the country’s 2030 vision of becoming a middle income nation.
Mr Mubukwanu said it would be impossible for the country to realize its goal of being transformed into a prosperous middle income nation without healthy people.
The provincial minister said this was why government had attached great importance to the development of sports in schools and colleges as it was the avenue to a healthy mind.
Mr Mubukwanu said the provincial administration would not only create an enabling environment for college sports to thrive in the province but also ensure that financial and moral support is rendered to enhance sports development.
The minister was speaking in Solwezi today in a speech read for him by Deputy Permanent Secretary Alfred Chingi during the Technical Educational and Vocational Institutions Sports Association (TEVISA) heroes and unity athletics and ball games competition.
Mr Mubukwanu also called for discipline from participants as it would help them build a good character and excel in the various sports disciplines.
Speaking earlier, Technical Educational and Vocational Institutions Sports Association (TEVISA) president Fabian Zulu appealed to government to assist colleges develop sports facilities which he said was hindering sports development.
Mr Zulu appealed to the corporate world to assist colleges procure sports attire for the teams.
Thirteen colleges and TEVET institutions from Lusaka, Southern, Copperbelt and the host Northwestern province are participating in the week long competition.
