Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao today ended his state visit to Zambia with an inspection of the Lusaka
East Multi Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ) of the China Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (ZCCZ) which is operated by the
China Nonferrous Metal Mining Company (CNMC).
And Zambia’s Vice President Guy Scott says the state visit of his Chinese counterpart to Zambia will further strengthen the already existing warm ties between the two countries.
The Vice President of China who was accompanied by the Deputy Chief Executive Office of CNMC Tao Xinghu and Chinese Ambassador to Zambia
Zhou Yuxiao conducted a tour of the MFEZ starting in the company of the two Zambian Ministers, Robert Sichinga who is in charge of the
Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry and Minister of Home Affairs Ngosa Simbyakula, respectively.
Also accompanying the Chinese Vice President were the First Secretary of the Central Committee of Communist young league Mr. Qin
Yizhi, Deputy Minister of the International Communication Department of CPC Central Committee Mr. Yu Hongjun, Chinese Deputy Minister of
Commerce Li Jinzao and Chinese Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Qian Hongshan.
The entourage visited the exhibition of the CNMC achievements of investment and development in Zambia, in the same hall where the plans for the development of the Lusaka East Multi Facility Economic Zone and Chambishi MFEZ have been displayed.
ZCCZ is composed of two sub-zones, one is the 11.58 square kilometre Chambishi MFEZ in Kalulushi on the Copperbelt province while the other
one is the 5.7 square kilometre Lusaka East MFEZ located 25 km away from the city centre of Lusaka near Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
During his tour Mr. Li interacted with the Chinese workers operating the MFEZ and commended them for accepting to work in Africa and
particularly in Zambia.
Meanwhile the Chinese Vice President who has been in Zambia for three days has since left Zambia for Tanzania aboard the Tanzanian Airways, this afternoon.
Mr. Li was seen off at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at about 12:30 hours by Vice President Guy Scott, Commerce Trade and Industries
Minister Robert Sichinga, Home Affairs Minister Ngosa Simbyakula, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao, Service Chiefs and other
senior Government and party official.
Speaking after the departure of the Chinese Vice President, Dr. Scott expressed gratitude to his Chinese counterpart for visiting Zambia and
showing them the new Chinese way of doing things.
Dr. Scott further expressed happiness that his counterpart showed open mindedness and modest in his visit and by choosing to visit a school
teacher and interacted well.
