More sensitization on new currency needed
Kalomo, March 7, ZANIS ——— Chif Saichitema of the Tonga people of Kalomo says there is great need to intensify sensitization campaigns of the rebased Kwacha notes and coins for the rural communities to fully understand the new monetary legal tender.
The traditional ruler said most people are still keeping huge sums of money in their homes while others are being cheated out of the new notes with some rejecting the new coins.
The chief said while he appreciated efforts done by the central bank through the on-going sensitization campaigns mounted by ZANIS in selected rural areas with the assistance of the Southern provincial administration, the rural masses still lacks more information of the usage of the old notes and the new ones.
Meanwhile, Kasukwe Ward Councillor, Peter Chile has bemoaned that some people are busy swindling villagers with the new K2 note purporting to them that it is the new KR 20 note and were busy buying chickens from the villagers.
The civic leader said vigorous campaigns over the new currency should continue through the phase period of the usage of the old and new notes and coins, June 30, to enable villagers and the rural community at large to understand the process.
