FQM opens new door to 500 workers expected to be laid off next month

First Quantum Mineral, (FQM) a major holder of Kansanshi Mine Company has indicated that the 500 contracted workers earmarked to be laid off in July has opened up job opportunities to the affected miners.
Mr. Lewis said the move that is among many mitigating measures the company has taken against the job losses and has already paid dividend.

He said some of the affected workers have successfully applied for the new jobs at the company.

This is according to a statement released to ZANIS by Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Bruce Lewis.

Mr said the company is encouraging affected workers to make full use of the mine’s job centre in Solwezi.

He added that the job centre allows all job seekers to apply online across FQM operations worldwide and workers who are computer literate will be assisted to apply as stipulated in the company’s policy of fair employment opportunity.

The manager has since encouraged the affected workers to also look for other opportunities such as local business development and conservation faring among others in order to sustain their livelihood
