A NON-GOVERNMENTAL Organisation (NGO) has urged the Church to expose cases of defilement that allegedly happen within the Church.
Bwafwano Care Providers executive director Minerva Phiri appealed to the Church to break the silence in the fight against defilement cases by exposing such acts.
Ms Phiri said, during the launch of the HIV/AIDS sensitisation programme for in and out of school youths with disabilities in Kitwe at the weekend, that the Church had a role to play in protecting children against such Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases.
She said it was important for the Church to come out in the open and expose defilers that hide in the name of Christianity despite their positions in church.
“Our babies are being defiled, their lives are in great danger and yet the church has remained silent.
“The church must break the silence regardless of the status of such perpetrators of GBV cases,” she said.
Ms Phiri further urged Government to address the use of language for the impaired in various schools.
She said Government should ensure that HIV/AIDS Information is printed on Braille for the visually impaired citizens to accord them an opportunity to learn.
And Children in Need Network regional chairperson Andrew Chanda appealed to Government to build infrastructure for the differently able, as the ones available were not user friendly for them.
Mr Chanda said they worked under difficult situations because they were not considered in many aspects and yet they could contribute positively to the development of the country.
“We have seen men and women that are physically challenged but have contributed greatly to this country,” Mr Chanda said.
