Government has directed that all education institutions that are being established countrywide should be registered by government and follow the national educational system.

Education Minister, John Phiri, says primary and secondary schools must be registered by the Teachers’ Council and higher education institutions by the higher Education Authority which will be fully functional this year.

Dr Phiri stated that all schools should follow the new national education curriculum which guides the first four grades to use a local language for instruction.

He said this during the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a girls’ secondary school by Horizon Education Trust (HET) in Lusaka’s Kabulonga area.

The minister said the construction of the school will add value to the education system in the country as it will accord an opportunity for more girl children to be educated.

Dr Phiri has also commended the Horizon Education Trust for offering 30 scholarships to Zambians to undertake mathematics and science degree studies in Turkey.

And Turkish Ambassador to Zambia, Ahmet Arda, said the Horizon Education Trust is funded by some Turkish donors.

He said the funders belong to a nongovernmental oranisation that aims at investing in the education sector in the country.

Mr Arda said the Zambia girls who will be educated at the school will be able to contribute to the country’s development and the friendly relations between Turkey and Zambia.
