DC nods tourism promotion proposals
Chipata, February 27, ZANIS —– Chipata District Commissioner Kalunga Zulu has supported the proposals by the Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) to include Eastern Province as one of its tourism destinations.
Mr Zulu expressed optimism that if Eastern Province becomes a tourism destination Chipata is likely to benefit being the provincial capital.
He told ZANIS in an interview in Chipata today that Eastern Province has for a long time lagged behind in terms of tourism development despite having a lot of potential in the sector.
He explained that once declared a tourism destination Chipata would take advantage and show most of its tourism attractions hence creating job opportunities for the local people.
Mr Zulu noted that plans are underway to create a cultural village within Chipata that will house a variety of tourism attractions.
He explained that the cultural village will showcase things such as the history of N’cwala and the Ngoni land.
He disclosed that proposals have also been made to create holiday resorts on mountains since the area is mountainous.
The District Commissioner has since called on key stakeholders in the tourism industry to play an active role in ensuring that the district benefits more by coming up with robust tourism promotion programmes in the area.
Mr Zulu further pledged to work tirelessly to ensure the tourism resorts and tourism promotion in general becomes a success in the province.
