— United Party for National Development (UPND) Choma Member of Parliament Cornelius Mweetwa says this year’s Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for his constituency will be channelled towards the procurement of earth moving machines for the construction of roads.
Mr. Mweetwa said the constituency has since engaged the Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Communication to see how it can help facilitate the purchase of these machines.
Speaking to ZANIS in a telephone interview today, Mr. Mweetwa noted that good roads were cardinal for development to flourish in Choma.
He said the constituency has planned to buy among others machines a Tipa truck, front end loader, roller, water buzzer, grader and a low bed.
Mr. Mweetwa confirmed that Choma has since received the one billion 2013 Constituency Development Fund.
He stated that among the priorities to be worked on once the equipment is purchased will be roads from villages into town in order to open up trade for farmers in the area.
Mr. Mweetwa said some feeder roads in Choma were in a deplorable state as no rehabilitation works work been done on them since they were constructed in the UNIP regime.
He said roads in rural areas are vital to the development of agriculture and other sectors.
Mr. Mweetwa observed that in the 2011-2012 Constituency Development Fund, Choma Constituency centred on improving the health and education sector.
He noted that from the K800 Million Kwacha that the constituency received, it managed to electrify Masuku high school which is about 80 kilometres away from Choma.
He further explained that among some of the projects that the constituency managed to do was the upgrading of Choma Prisons clinic which is now serving the nearby community and the prisons.
